Hello, I´m Nicole Rosales. I´m a young student in Public Relationships and Communication. What is my biggest concern? I really can´t tell. The world right now is being messed up by us humans in every possible way. Personally I´m a huge fan of living. The world has so much to give us and we take so much from it that I wanted to participate in this project to put a piece of myself on the process of taking care of our home.
My contribution to the Earth and this blog is to share my experience picking up cigarette butts outside popular bars here in Costa Rica. Did you now that cigarette butts are the major waste on the streets? Per year there are 4,3 trillion of cigarette butts being discarded and more than 80% of them are being left off in the street, taking 25 years each to decompose. At least in Costa Rica, outside bars is where most likely you may find the major amount of cigarette butts left off. I love going to bars to hang out with my friends, but having this reality so nearby me makes me sick. That´s why I chose this as my action.
Last night I went outside my favorite bar with a bag and some gloves, and I picked up every cigarette butt I saw and explained, to people that I saw throwing theirs to the street, the damage they were causing by doing that action. Felt really good and I hope to do it again someday. The only way to solve the problem is to educate people and mark in their heads that there are tons of ways to contribute with the saving of planet Earth. As from now on, I will give this data to every smoker I see cause you never know how many cigarette butts can you save from being on the streets.
