When we first received our globe, we had a hard time deciding which issues to tackle- since, clearly, there are so many. We finally decided to deal with a problem that haunts our LA streets: air pollution. After doing some research, we found out that the majority of cars in traffic have only one person in them, which of course, is completely ridiculous. We considered solving this problem by pledging to bike more to places, but the fact is that in the sprawling suburbs, biking just takes too much time for it to be an efficient way to decrease air pollution. And so, of course, we decided upon using carpooling. We established a system where, every day, when my dad comes to pick me up he picks my friend up too, and then we drop her off at her grandma’s house. It’s the same thing with my little brother- he gets picked up by a friend who drops him off at my house. Still, we wanted to do more, so we created a contract for our very big family- making them promise to carpool at least once a month for whatever reason. We hope to contribute more and more in this fight against climate change and pollution, but we are glad to start.
